Road in Glenfield still closed due to burst water pipe
A road off the A50 in Glenfield has been closed for more than a daya day due to a burst water pipe.
Staff from Severn Trent have been at the scene for all of Thursday to repair the pipe, which was reported to police on Wednesday evening at 5.35pm.
Since then, workers from the water company have been trying to resolve the issue, which has taken longer than expected due to a more “complicated” issue than first thought.
The road closure remains in place, with the company assuring that they are doing everything they can to return everything back to normal.
A spokesperson for Severn Trent said: “We’d like to apologise to customers living and working near Gynsill Lane in Glenfield, who’ve been affected by a burst water pipe yesterday evening. We quickly brought it under control and returned everyone’s supply shortly after being made aware of it.
“Now we’ve managed to isolate the burst, we’re working hard to repair the pipe.

“Unfortunately, this has proved to be more complicated than we initially thought, so we’ll continue to work in the area until the job’s done.
“To keep our team and other road users safe, we’ll need to keep a temporary road closure in place for now.
“Again, we’re really sorry for the inconvenience this is causing, but be assured we’re doing everything we can to return everything to normal.”
They also added they were unsure of when the road would reopen, with the road needing to be resurfaced once the pipe has been fixed, but it will be sorted as soon as possible.
Leicestershire County Council also confirmed that a road closure is in place while the works are ongoing.
A spokesperson said: “Leicestershire County Council Highways has agreed to a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order at the above location.
