Atkins Gallery hosts ‘Origins, Ghosts and Shadows’ art exhibition by local artist Geoff Bailey

Atkins Gallery is excited to be hosting the much anticipated exhibition by Barwell-based artist Geoff Bailey.
This exhibition was sadly postponed from last year because of the coronavirus restrictions. The exhibition is now live and runs until Friday 6 August.
Geoff Bailey recently retired from his teaching post as Head of Art at Dixie Grammar School in Market Bosworth and is moving onto his next challenge with a solo exhibition of his works.
There are three key themes in the exhibition which also form the inspiration for the title Origins, Ghosts and Shadows. ‘Origins’ has its basis in Darwin’s theory the Origin of Species looking at the evolution of mankind. ‘Ghosts’ captures the decline of the industries that once dominated this area and is also a celebration because Geoff was able to break free of the culture of expectation of leaving school to go straight into factory work and was able to pursue a different career path. ‘Shadows’ explores the use of light and dark throughout art history and recreating it in a contemporary setting.
Geoff Bailey said:
This exhibition and its themes [Origins, Ghosts and Shadows] are ongoing and could play out over years, they also allow me to investigate various different approaches as I am influenced by many different artists and experiment with their concepts and techniques.
Councillor Keith Nichols, Executive member for Culture said:
Finally the Atkins Gallery is able to welcome visitors back with coronavirus restrictions now lifted and welcome Geoff Bailey as he holds his much awaited art exhibition.
The staff are very much looking forward to having visitors back and can’t wait to show people the changing programme of exhibitions they have worked hard putting together for them. However we would still ask visitors to follow guidelines and not attend should they be displaying any coronavirus symptoms.
The exhibition is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm with free entry and activities for children. The Hansom Café at Atkins Building is also open for coffees, cake, lunches and light bites with indoor and outdoor seating areas.
