Dog-friendly Leicestershire pubs to visit with your pooch
Hooray, it’s a bank holiday weekend, and it looks like the sun might even make an appearance.
Now that hospitality businesses have been able to fully open once again, a visit to one of Leicestershire’s excellent pubs may well be on your agenda for the long weekend.
If you’ve got a canine companion, you’re probably going to want to take them along. You could even combine it with a lovely long walk.
Around the city and county, there’s plenty of pubs that provide a warm welcome to dogs, so here’s a selection of places that you could try…
The Bradgate, Newtown Linford
This pub is situated close to beautiful Bradgate Park, so it’s an ideal place to pop into before or after a stroll around the park.
Dogs are welcome in the pub’s large garden and patio areas. There are dog bowls and the general manager will often give out treats to the dogs.
Dogs are not allowed indoors at the moment, as the areas used for dogs and their owners isn’t currently in use due to the reduced capacity. Once restrictions are relaxed further, this area is set to reopen.

This Melton pub – the oldest in the town – welcomes dogs outside on a lead and also inside in a designated area.

The Navigation Inn, Barrow upon Soar
Dogs will get a warm welcome at this Barrow pub. They are allowed throughout the pub, with the exception of the function room.
There’s always a fresh bowl of water on the porch, so passing dog walkers can let their pooch have a drink even when the pub is closed, and there are water bowls dotted around the garden. There’s also usually a big jar of biscuits waiting on the bar for four-legged visitors.

The Swan Inn, Mountsorrel
The Swan Inn is a dog-friendly pub, and canine companions are allowed throughout the pub.
There are free treats and water bowls, and also free dog waste bags.

This town centre pub is more than happy for dogs to visit.
They are allowed throughout the building and there are dog bowls and treats provided. There is a beer barrel with water dedicated to dogs, whether their owners are drinking or not.

The White Horse, Birstall
Once voted the most dog-friendly pub in Leicestershire by the Rover Dog-Friendly Pub Awards, this Birstall pub makes four-legged guests very welcome.
Dogs are allowed in the garden, on the banks of Watermead Park, and in the bar area.
There’s a designated barrel of dog water outside and there’s always treats available.

This London Road pub is dog-friendly and dogs are allowed in all areas of the pub including the large garden. There are water bowls inside and there is a barrel of water and a number of bowls as you go into the garden.
There’s a doggy sweet machine that you put 20p in and get dog treats, and the pub even serves up free doggy dinners on a Sunday!
