This triumphant archway was erected for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Queen Victoria in 1897. The wording on the arch still shows the spelling of Groby as "Grooby". Victoria's son, the Prince of Wales and later King, regularly rode through the village to visit friends at Bradgate house. The archway may have been put up to honour his visit in the year of his mother's jubilee.
