Have your say on Hinckley high street heritage zone

Hinckley residents and businesses are being invited to take part in a short survey to gain a better understanding of how they use and experience Hinckley town centre and what could be improved.
The survey is the first step in the town’s High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) project, a four-year scheme which has been 50{ef1beab3447d5cb220c3619d9fa65ddc127cf119fcf53b8ba61e2dc5c4a7776f} funded by Historic England. The remainder of funding is to come from private and public sources and includes a contribution of approximately £360,000 from the Borough Council.
A High Street Heritage Action Zone is a heritage-led regeneration programme designed to secure lasting improvements to historic high streets and the communities who use them and will play a key role in the economic and social recovery of the town centre following the coronavirus pandemic.
The zone is located within Hinckley Town Centre Conservation Area and comprises an exciting and innovative array of projects, to help safeguard and celebrate the heritage of the town. These projects include:
- Improvement in the area around Church Walk Car Park, Castle Street and the historic jitties and yards
- The opportunity for historic building owners and occupiers within the retail core of the town centre to apply for generous grants for works of repair and reinstating traditional features, with a particular focus on shop fronts
- Determining whether vacant buildings and spaces and spaces can be re-developed and improved
- A range of events and activities to engage people in Hinckley’s heritage and culture
Deputy Leader of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, Cllr David Bill said:
I am delighted to see work start on a project that can only benefit the town, its residents and visitors. Every town centre across the country has suffered during the pandemic but this project will enable us to help regenerate our town centre and surrounding areas. I hope local residents take this opportunity to get involved in helping to shape the future of our historic town.
