The Execution of Lady Jane Grey

Lady Jane Grey reigned as Queen for nine days in 1553 until deposed by supporters of Catholic Queen Mary. She was beheaded at Tower Hill in London early the following year, aged 17.

The French painter Paul Delaroche was famous in his day for his scenes from the lives of British royalty, especially those who were doomed or dying. His well known painting (below), hanging in the British National Museum, was painted in 1833.
