Following the recent overnight crime spree around The Fairway area and general crime incidents over the Sapcote Road side of Burbage, we have been completing targeted patrols in the area.
Patrols around Hinckley Road, Sapcote Road, Winchester Drive, The Fairway and Woodland Avenue.
We would also like to remind you of security around Christmas decorations. There are some amazing displays in the village so please either lock them up and ensure you have some decent security or bring them in before bed time.
Banking scam that a resident would like to share with you.
“Received a ‘really good’ telephone call yesterday from Visa fraud who advised me that they had picked up a fraudulent transaction on my Santander debit card and would I want to stop it?
YES I replied! He then asked me for my sort code and account number.
I replied that he should probably have that information anyway?
I then said I would clear down and call Santander myself to check and he was adamant I didn’t need to do that. He then asked me for my IP address (which I do know) so he could help me further! (Good way to get access to my PC that)
I worked in IT and systems so spotted this call for what it was but I am advising you because this guy was very plausible.
Best part about this is that I don’t have a Santander current account!”
You can report these types of scams online to Action Fraud via https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/
