SCAM Another Ford Theft Litter Picking And Lock Your Doors (Leicestershire Police)

Hello,

Thank you for your ratings and feedback. Here is a catch up on all things Burbage this week.

A catalytic converter has been stolen from a Toyota Auris on Sketchley Grange hotel sometime between the 8th and 10th of March. If you are visiting locations and leaving your vehicle in unfamiliar areas, please keep a check on it as this will help us get a better time frame and support with our investigations.

Theft of a Ford Fiesta Titanium from a driveway on Forresters Road. The incident occurred around 22:00 on the 9th of March. No entrance was made to the property so likely to be some form of keyless entry. This is the 3rd incident involving this type of vehicle in the last month. Please consider steering locks and keyless car wallets (RFID).

We visited the Britannia Fields Playgroup to introduce ourselves to the young residents of Burbage. We spoke about road safety, stranger danger and the children had lots of fun trying on the Police uniforms and seeing the Burbage Bear. It is great to engage with the children and hopefully makes them more confident if they need any help as they get older.

We have been completing some work regarding online news that a defibrillator was stolen from the Co-op on Rainbow way.

We have been out completing a litter pick with some young Burbage residents as part of our community resolutions. These activities can be used as a way to pay back to the community if they have been involved in criminal behaviour in the area. We visited the Sketchley industrial estate area and collected 3 bin bags full of rubbish.

We have also completed patrols, leaflet drops and resident engagement on East Close and West Close following an online report of a suspect checking car doors and has managed to take some vehicle documents from a vehicle. Please ensure your vehicle is always locked.

Please ensure that all incidents of crime are reported straight away to either 999 (emergency), 101 (non-emergency) or online https://www.leics.police.uk/

I am holding a crime prevention stall outside the Burbage Millennium Hall on Sunday the 20th of March from 12:00 until about 15:00. Pop along for a chat and to see our sold at cost crime prevention items such as RFID wallets, Fence spikes, window alarms and much more. I have attached the crime prevention catalogue so drop me an email if you cannot make it but would like any more information. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

Scams, a close call !

We have received a second report of a scam regarding someone claiming to be from the Police. Unlike the last incident in Burbage, thankfully the bank worker put a stop to it and informed the Police.

Here is what happened so please ensure any family or friends are aware so as to not fall victim.

The resident received a call from someone identifying themselves as a police officer from new Scotland yard. The individual on the phone told the resident that he had been a victim of attempted fraud and that the police needed his help in catching the fraudsters. The individual claiming to be a police officer then gave the resident a crime number and then instructed the resident that when he hears a tone to dial 999 on his phone keypad, then give the person answering the crime number. The resident then heard the tone and dialled 999 which was almost immediately answered by a person claiming to be a police officer from HINCKLEY police station giving a name and collar number. The individual claiming to be a police officer from Hinckley then asked a number of questions around his banking and how much he has in his accounts. The resident was then told that he could not tell anyone that he was working with the police or new Scotland yard. The resident was then given some bank details and told to go to his bank branch and told that he should tell the bank that the money was for building work on his house and that the builder was recommended by a friend.

The Police will NEVER ask for your bank details. NEVER give your details to anyone over the phone. PLEASE speak to family and friends if you are unsure or simply put the phone down.

A message from a resident concerned at the number of scams on Facebook via advertising such as the one below.
