Stolen Caravan E-Scooters Kensington car in Garden and Well Done Jackie (Leicestershire Police)

Hello,

Caravan stolen from a driveway on Salisbury Road. The Swift Challenger was taken from a driveway around 16:00 on 25th November. The incident is being investigated so if you have any CCTV that may identify any suspicious vehicles/persons in the area, please get in touch. Crime number 21000691936.

Boyslade Road (around the area between Darley Road and Chatsworth Close). We have received a report of an attempt residential burglary on 26th November at around 01:00. The front door handle was found broken the following morning. Potentially car crime related. Crime number 21000688952 if you have any information regarding this incident.

Some good news. Police volunteer Jackie has won support volunteer of the year for Leicestershire Police. Over recent years, Jackie has been a massive help to not only me but also the residents of Burbage. She has supported with the community speed watch events, MVAS box, and crime prevention products that we are able to provide residents with at cost and all the crime prevention events we have organised. Well done and thank you.

Kensington Avenue. It appears a vehicle may have slid off the road into the front garden of a resident’s house causing very minor damage. No one reported hurt. If you were involved or have the registration of a vehicle in the area on 28th November at around 19:46, please get in touch.

We attended Burbage Christmas Market on Friday. Lovely event and we managed to speak to lots of residents. Great to hear some of the feedback and help provide residents with crime prevention/Road safety items.

As many residents may be putting Christmas decorations outside over the coming weeks, please remember to do what you can to protect them. Last year we suffered around a handful of theft of Christmas decorations from people’s gardens. It is limited as to what you can do to prevent this type of crime but consider chains, alarms, padlocks, outdoor lights or taking them into the back garden when you go to bed. The type of criminal engaging in this activity are opportunistic so make it as hard as possible.

Please take a look at the attached community safety partnership newsletter winter edition.

Is anyone considering buying an E-Scooter for Christmas, already owning one or considering getting one in the near future?

The UK government is currently taking part in “Future transport zone” trials for E-scooter hire with a view to making them legal to use on roads.

All local authorities can apply to take part, but at the moment, Leicestershire are not part of the trials.

We understand that buying an e-scooter can be tempting, especially as you can buy them from many popular retailers. However, the current law is clear. You can buy one but you can’t ride it on a UK public road, cycle lane or pavement. The only place an e-scooter can be used is on private land.

E-scooters are classified as personal light electric vehicles, so they are treated as motor vehicles and subject to the same legal requirements such as MOT, licensing, Tax and insurance.

As e-scooters do not have number plates, signalling ability and do not always have visible rear lights, they cannot be used legally on the roads.

Section 165 of the road traffic act 1988 provides the power to seize privately owned e-scooters for driving without insurance or a driving licence.

We hope this clears things up and saves any problems in the near future.

Thank you and take care.
